Dennis Foggia (Leopard Racing) picked up where he left off from the morning session, topping FP2 at the Octo Grand Prix of San Marino ahead of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) by just 0.013s, but the Italian's morning time still has him three-tenths clear of the rest of the field. Romano Fenati (Sterilgarda Max Racing Team) slips to third after he was unable to go quicker in the session.

How the session unfolded
After the mid-day break, the sun once again shone on the track, but the mixed conditions meant that only a select few riders could better their morning times, with Acosta the pick of the lot as he moved up into P2 after completing his 13th lap. With only a few minutes remaining, and as riders prepared to get ready for one final flying lap, the rain flags were back out as specks of rain began to fall across the circuit, but Foggia had already posted a time good enough to take him to the top of the session's timesheets.
Niccolo Antonelli (Avintia VR46 Academy) sat inside the top three times this morning and did manage to improve his time in the afternoon, but still finds himself in P4 after Acosta’s impressive showing.
There were several other riders who improved their times and now sit well inside the Q2 places, including Andrea Migno (Rivacold Snipers Team) and impressive debutant Matteo Bertelle (Bardhal VR46 Riders Academy), who are in P5 and P6 respectively.
The rest of the top 10
It was a mixed session for the Petronas Sprinta riders, with John McPhee back in the lightweight class after debuting in Moto2™ last week, and he occupies P7 while teammate Darryn Binder is also inside the top 10, but will be feeling sore after a big highside at Turn 8.

Aragon GP podium finisher Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Tech3) is sandwiched between those two on the timesheets, with Filip Salac (Car Xpert Pruestel GP) completing the top 10.
Championship contender Sergio Garcia (Gaviota GASGAS Aspar Team) sits outside the Q2 places altogether, and with rain a strong possibility on Saturday morning, will he be able to improve on his time during FP3?
