Martin on the rise in Ducati's all-time list!

Check out some of the best stats after an enthralling Japanese Grand Prix, which also sees Marc Marquez move up the rankings of the all-time greats

The 2023 Motul Grand Prix may not have gone the full race distance, but that doesn't mean it wasn't an absolute wet weather thriller. It will go down as one of the most dramatic races of the year, with Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) only adding to the excitement by taking the win and closing the gap to Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) to just three points in the title race. Having had a couple of days to catch our breaths, we took a deep dive into some of the more fascinating statistics to come out of Round 14, and you can check them out below!

140 – Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) finishes P3 for his first podium since he finished P2 at the Australian GP last year. He moves above MotoGP™ Legend Angel Nieto into fifth on the list of the riders with the most GP podiums on 140 – behind MotoGP™ Legend Jorge Lorenzo, who is fourth on 152.

40 – With Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia, Ducati is on a streak of 40 MotoGPTM Grand Prix races in a row with at least one rider on the podium.

17 – Franco Morbidelli (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) finished 17th, meaning none of the riders have scored points in all 14 MotoGP™ races of the season so far.

11 – The win for Martin is the 11th for Ducati so far this season, which is already one less than the Bologna factory achieved last year (12).

8 – With Martin and Bagnaia, this is the eighth Ducati 1-2 so far this season.

7 – Martin took the win for his seventh podium overall so far this year, extending his own highest number of podiums he’s taken a single MotoGP™ season.

4 – Martin took his fourth MotoGP™ win, all with Ducati. He is now tied with Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) in fifth place on the list of the most successful riders with Ducati.

3 – Martin did the “double” at the Japanese GP (both the Tissot Sprint and GP victories) for the third time along with the German and the San Marino GPs earlier this year, equalling Bagnaia who has also done it three times in Portugal, Italy and Austria.

3 – Reigning World Champion Bagnaia is still leading the riders’ classification with a three-point advantage over Martin. This would have been the closest margin after the opening 14 premier class Grand Prix since 1993 when the current point scoring system was introduced... but in 2023, with 37 points on offer every GP weekend, that margin is even more astonishing.
