Fresh from the podium in Indonesia, David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports) got his MotoGP™ Guru by Gryfyn Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix off to the perfect start as he snatched the top spot with a 1:37.638. It was title challenger Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) who got the closest to the Spaniard 0.265s away in P2, with the Italian Riccardo Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounding out the top 3.

Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) took well to the Philip Island circuit, finishing the session in P4 with Brazilian Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets MSI), winner last time out, rounding out the top 5. Championship leader Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) was 0.514s off the pace as he finished Practice 1 in P6 ahead of the home hero Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PruestelGP) who was looking strong from the off.
