Moto2™ action at the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia got underway and it was Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) who kept his stock value high in Practice 1, taking the top spot after recently being linked with a 2024 HRC MotoGP™ call-up. The Spaniard's 2:06.183 came in the closing stages of the session and saw him deny Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team) the top spot by just 0.060s. The Brit took P2 after a strong showing, with Championship leader Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) sitting comfortably in P3 as he sets his sights on wrapping up the 2023 title.

Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) was sliding his way around the Sepang International Circuit and finished just 0.011s away from the top three in P4. Dennis Foggia (Italtrans Racing) enjoyed a good session as he rounded out the top five ahead of his teammate Joe Roberts. Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing) started his weekend in Malaysia in 7th position with Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) hot on his tail in P8.
Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Mastercamp) was sat on top of the pile for the majority of the session before the times tumbled in the closing stages. The Spaniard is looking strong for race pace as he took 9th place with Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) digging his Kalex machine out of the gravel to round out the top 10.
