Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) found an extra gear on Saturday morning at the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia as he moved the goalposts with an impressive 2:05.319. Somkiat Chanta (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) was the closest contender to the Spaniard – almost half a second back in 2nd place! Just behind the Thai rider was Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team) who's showing strong form at the Sepang International Circuit.

Championship leader Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) finished just 0.043s shy of the top three in fourth place and with his title rival Tony Arbolino (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) facing Q1, the Spaniard hopes of wrapping up the title here in Malaysia have got a little stronger.
Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) rounded out the top five ahead of Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing) and Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing). The Belgian Barry Baltus (Fieten Olie Racing GP) was next up in P8 with Filip Salac (QJMOTOR Gresini Racing Moto2™) and Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) - who failed to improve in Practice 3 - rounding out the top 10.
Sam Lowes (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) bagged himself a Q2 spot as he took 11th place with the Spanish trio of Sergio Garcia (Pons Wegow Los40), Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp), and Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team) taking the final Q2 spots inside the top 14.
