Clean sweep for Aldeguer with qualifying looming

The Spaniard has dominated proceedings from the off to lead Roberts and Canet into qualifying

Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) has moved the goalposts yet again after his 1:57.895 stands as a new all-time lap record at the Lusail International Circuit. The Spaniard is looking untouchable onboard his Triumph-powered Boscoscuro machine as he goes into qualifying as the only rider who broke the 1:58 barrier. Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) was his closest competitor as the American found 1.2 seconds in Practice 3 to put himself into 2nd place. No improvement came the way of Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) on Saturday but his Friday lap time was enough to bag him 3rd place on the combined timings.

Next up was Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team), who narrowly missed out on the top three. The Brit was looking fast on Friday and gelled well with his Triumph engine to find two-tenths on Saturday to consolidate P4. Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team) has also looked strong from the off as he rounded the top five with Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) and Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) taking 6th and 7th to ensure their spots in Q2.

Joining the big hitters in Qualifying 2 will be Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) who made a huge step on Saturday to take 8th place ahead of Ai Ogura (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) and Zonta va dan Goorbergh (Fieten Olie Racing GP) who rounded out the top 10. The newly crowned Champion Pedro Acotsa (Red Bull KTM Ajo) has some work to do from 11th place but did grab a Q2 spot with Aleix Escrig (Forward Team), Barry Baltus (Fieten Olie Racing GP), and Tony Arbolino (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) taking the final Q2 places.

Make sure to tune in for Moto2™ Qualifying at 18:45 local time (GMT +3)!
