Born in 2003, Sergio Garcia hails from the Comunitat Valenciana in Spain and won the Spanish Pre-Moto3 Championship in 2016 before moving into the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship the year after. In 2017 he took his first win at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and ended the season seventh overall before taking another step forward in 2018. Winning four races and coming home runner up in the Championship, the season was a stunning one despite a leg break mid-season that sat Garcia on the sidelines for a couple of races. For 2019 he made another step forward as he graduated onto the world stage with the same structure, riding for Estrella Galicia 0,0. A stunning season end proved he was a rider with plenty of promise as he took second in Malaysia which was followed up by victory at his home Grand Prix. He didn’t make the top step of the podium in 2020 but there were consecutive second place finishes, both of which came in Valencia as he continued his development at this level. Making the move to GasGas Apsar Team, the young Spaniard continued to live up to the billing with three victories and two P2 finishes keeping well in the title hunt as he sat second in the Championship. However, an FP1 crash at the Americas GP caused a hematoma in his kidney, ruling him out of the following two races and ending his title challenge. The Valencian ended his season on a high though, securing P2 at his home GP to consolidate P3 in the Championship. 2022 saw him contend among the frontrunners for the title once more, and three wins in the first half of the season had him in the thick of the battle. However, despite securing five further podiums, Garcia was outshone by his teammate Izan Guevara to Championship glory as the Valencian had to settle for second place. 2023 sees him make the jump up to Moto2™ where he will partner Aron Canet and Flexbox HP40.
